چکیده
OBJECTIVE Determine, through dissection in fresh cadavers, the topographic anatomy of the tibial nerve and its branches at the ankle, in relation to the tarsal tunnel. METHODS Bilateral dissections were performed on 26 fresh cadavers and the locations of the tibial nerve bifurcation and its branches were measured in millimeters. For the calcaneal branches, the amount and their respective nerves of origin were also analyzed. RESULTS The tibial nerve bifurcation occurred under the tunnel in 88% of the cases and proximally in 12%. As for the calcaneal branches, the medial presented with one (58%), two (34%) and three (8%) branches, with the most common source occurring in the tibial nerve (90%) and the lower with a single branch per leg and lateral plantar nerve as the most common origin (70%). Level of Evidence, V Expert opinion .

A Rare Bilateral Variation in the Formation of Median Nerve
The median nerve is formed by fusion of lateral (C5-C7) and medial (C8, T1) cords from the brachial plexus. Bilateral variations in the formation of median nerve are very rare. One of such variations was observed during the dissection of the upper limb of approximately a 30-35-year-old man cadaver, according to Grant s method. The median nerve was formed by the union of three roots on both side...

Introduction: Median Nerve (MN) originated from medial and lateral cords of Brachial Plexus can be affected by anatomical variations which may lead to several diagnostic and therapeutic mistakes. This paper aim is to study about MN variations investigated by cadaveric studies. Materials and Methods: This study is based on research in electronic databases. Sometimes, because of lack of proper coverage of distal fractured legs, these fractures cause loss of the skin and expose the distal Tibial bones on the medial sides. In such situations, there are two ways for the soft tissue reconstruction: 1. Cross leg flaps and 2. using free flap with microvascular anastomosis. In the present article a case of free Gracilis flap transfer for reconstruction o...
متن کاملArterial Anatomy of the Posterior Tibial Nerve in the Tarsal Tunnel.
BACKGROUND Both vascular and compression etiologies have been proposed as the source of neurologic symptoms in tarsal tunnel syndrome. Advancing the understanding of the arterial anatomy supplying the posterior tibial nerve (PTN) and its branches may provide insight into the cause of tarsal tunnel symptoms. The purpose of this study was to describe the arterial anatomy of the PTN and its branch...
متن کاملEvaluation of Changes in Nerve Conduction Velocity in the Lower Limbs of Football Players
Background & Aims: Lower limbs’ nerves are exposed to mechanical injuries in athletes (e.g. football players), because of the excessive physical demand of their job. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the influence of regular and intense sports, such as football, on nerves in the lower leg. This study was conducted during 2006 to 2007 in the Shiraz Rehabilitation Faculty, Univer...
